【作者簡介】

伊索（Aesop）



　　希臘最偉大的寓言家，誕生於薩摩斯島（Samos，位於愛琴海東部，接近現今的土耳其海岸），生存年代大紀是紀元前六世紀左右。他的出身是一名奴隸，但因為他的機智與豐富才學，得以被釋放而成為自由民。



　　現今流傳下來的『伊索寓言』故事，根據研究，其實只有一部分是真正由伊索本人所著作的。其他的部分，有一些是當地流傳已久的民間故事，伊索只是舊瓶新裝，將之彙整過後，重新拿來演說；另有一部分，乃根源於他崇高的說書人地位，因為當時代的人，把只要是伊索曾經公開講過的故事，都認為是由他所創作的作品。



　　『伊索寓言』究竟曾被翻譯成幾種語言，迄今難以估計。而其中許多故事，更演變成為現代語言中的一部分，如在英文中，sour grapes　己經成為envy的同義詞；而在中文裡，我們也有「酸葡萄心理」的說法。此書流傳之廣，風行之久，影響之深遠，由此可見一斑。
